As a Bank of America cardholder 💳, I love taking advantage of their monthly perk: the "Museums on Us" program, where cardholders get free admission to select museums on the first weekend of every month. Today, I visited the Atlanta History Center and saved a cool $27—such a great deal! 🙌
This museum offers a deep dive into Georgia's rich history, covering everything from Lincoln’s contributions to major battles, daily life, entertainment, and so much more. 🏛️ In the back, there's a beautiful garden 🌸 that's perfect for a relaxing stroll and some fresh air.
If you're planning a visit, I recommend going between 9–11:30 AM for the best experience. Have fun and enjoy your time! 🎉

What an incredible journey through Atlanta's history! This place really exceeded my expectations - there's so much more than I anticipated, and each exhibit tells such fascinating stories about the city's past.
One of the most memorable exhibits features the massive cyclorama painting of the Battle of Atlanta - it's absolutely mind-blowing! The experience starts with an informative video showing how the painting's presentation and interpretation changed over time, reflecting different historical perspectives. What makes it even more impressive is how they've created this immersive experience with 3D elements - actual physical items like replica bottles and terrain placed in front of the painting to create a stunning forced perspective. It's fascinating to learn how the meaning and presentation of this massive artwork shifted with Atlanta's changing cultural and political landscape.
The Olympics exhibit was a surprise highlight for me! As someone who didn't know much about Atlanta's Olympic history, I was captivated by the display of torch designs through the years. It really showcases Atlanta's proud moment hosting the 1996 Games and its impact on the city's development.
But the real showstopper has to be the famous Texas locomotive - what a piece of history! We got lucky and met one of the knowledgeable staff members who plays the role of a train engineer. His enthusiasm for railroad history was contagious!
Some practical tips from my visit:
- Plan at least 3-4 hours to do the center justice
- The Cyclorama presentation runs on a schedule, so check times when you arrive
- Your ticket includes access to Smith Farm and Swan House on the grounds
- They have a nice café if you need a break between exhibits
Really, it's more than a museum - it's like a campus dedicated to Atlanta's history. Well worth the admission price and time!

As a photo and video team based in Atlanta, we are at The Atlanta History Center many weekends throughout the year capturing weddings, as well as shooting engagement sessions during the week! The venue is always well kept, and manicured allowing for breathtaking content, and the staff are very informative and helpful. On wedding days, it is important to have venue staff that allow for a stress free day and Atlanta History Center does exactly that. We highly recommend Atlanta History Center to our clients, and to anyone else looking for the perfect wedding venue or engagement session location!

Completely blown away by this historical center. Great attention to details throughout, spent at least 2 hrs here with family and STILL didn't get to see everything. You will not be disappointed if you choose to visit. Swan house and more was incredible. Cannot recommend enough.

The best place to visit in Atlanta. If you are short with time I will suggest to jump first to visit Smith house and Swan house then everything else later. I am from Houston Texas and visited first time ever !
